Everyone falls in love with Lake Balaton (and its surrounding area) at the first sight. The area around the house is ideal for taking cycling trips, walking and hiking. It is also possible to rent boats or canoes for the fish lovers.
The sightseeing in the village are mostly small wine cellars. In the immediate area, you’ll find beautiful views on top of the hills on the north side of the lake. The region is known for the broad vineyards and of course the excellent wines that are often bottled by the owners themselves. The most infamous wine cellar of the region is called “Feind”. This is the perfect place to try and taste some delicious white, red and pink wines, or learn more about the history of the wine cellar.
In addition to a few supermarkets and a restaurant, which is open in the summer, there is also a cafe / bar, a post office, a train and bus station, a church and an internet cafe. Going out in the village isn’t all that thrilling, but further along Lake Balaton you will find every form of entertainment you can possibly think of. In Balatonakarattya (5 km), there is a discotheque, a bank, a tennis court, a miniature golf and a beach where you can either swim or practise water sports. You can find a horse riding school in Balatonkenese (6 km) and in Balatonfzfo (9 km), there is entertainment in the form of an outdoor and indoor swimming pool and a sauna. There are bike and boat / surfboard rentals in Balatonfured (18 km), and you can also practise horse riding. On the south side of Lake Balaton, you’ll find the village Siofok (15 km). This is a particularly touristy place where, in the summer, many young people find their entertainment. The area is filled with cozy restaurants and bars where you can eat in typical Hungarian style.
In the immediate area, there are two railway lines, the motorway M7 (E71) and the main road 71 directly along Lake Balaton (and the new parallel road 710, but this is not as “touristy” as the other ones). Along the main road, the places worth seeing are Veszprem, Szekesfehervar, Siofok. Nagyvazsony and the Bakony Mountains are also quickly accessible. And do you want to go to the real big cities? Within an hour you are in Budapest (95 km). Vienna (250 km) takes a little longer. But cities such as Gyor (90 km), Pecs (160 km) and Debrecen (350 km) are also worth a visit.
The house is located in the town of Balatonfokajar, on the north-east side, approx. 3 km from the beautiful Lake Balaton.
